Ignite offers Equine-Assisted EMDR, Psychotherapy, Trauma Counseling, and Family & Individual Therapy from our beautiful Scottsdale desert ranch.

Equine-Assisted EMDR is effective in helping clients who suffer from complex and single incident trauma, PTSD, and a wide range of other mental health challenges. This modality incorporates the 8 phases of EMDR while interacting with the horses. The dual attention of the horses provides the opportunity for the client to start to feel safe and grounded. The understanding of dissociation and the defensive actions that the human central nervous system plays to keep it safe is seen and understood by the horses. This attunement and understanding from the horse provide for the client new adaptive information or experiential “aha moments” that the clients can apply to other areas of their lives. It also offers team building and corporate event experiences for businesses, which include equine activities and and unique experiences tailored to each event.

Clinically Based Equine Therapy.

Therapy for individuals, groups, couples, families, children, and adolescents.

This tells participants a great deal about what sets Ignite Counseling and Equine Psychotherapy apart from the rest; Clinically-based therapy! Ignite is different because of its focus solely on empirically based modalities. The principal modality used by Ignite is Equine Assisted EMDR (Equilateral™).

The credentialing of our staff, along with the research and evidence in support of the treatments, is what sets our clinically based programs out at the forefront of equine-assisted psychotherapy programs.

All clinicians working at Ignite are licensed through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health as Licensed Professional Counselors or serving under the direct supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Inpatient and Outpatient Recovery Groups.

Equine psychotherapy is an integral part of, both inpatient and outpatient, rehab and recovery. Ignite continues to work with the top recovery groups in the Valley. For over six years, our programs have provided support to clients on their recovery journey.

Inpatient clients come out to the ranch every week; serving as an opportunity to leave the treatment facility and spend time in a healthy, staff-supported, outdoor setting. Once at the farm, our focus is on learning new key skills, tools, and resources while working alongside our equine companions. These tools and skills acquired on the ranch, are then applied back to their lives and programs providing much-needed, continued support.

Ignite horses and staff provide a wonderful adjunct type therapy to the intense work being done in treatment. This complementary support offers long-lasting and positive memories of time spent with the horses which clients can draw upon in the future.

Over the years, our research tells us people will stay in recovery longer when horses are introduced into their treatment. The horse-human connection has been the subject of much study and research. Now that the results are in, we can say with certainty, horses make the difference!

Stabilization.

Ignite Counseling and Equine Psychotherapy offer therapists in the Valley an opportunity to incorporate horses in conjunction with your current treatment plan.

If you would like to explore horses as part of your current stabilization plan or seek support in helping with stabilization resourcing in phase 2 of EMDR, we have options available.

Equine Assisted Learning, Horse Behavior, and Horsemanship Education.

For those clients that have an interest in learning more about our four-legged friends, there is an opportunity to work with an Equine Specialist one-on-one to make that happen! Participation in this program allows each person to explore the relationship and the horse-human connection on a much more personal level without the therapy.

If you’re interested in learning the basics of horsemanship or just want a better understanding of how these magnificent animals communicate, Equine Assisted Learning is for you. The things you find out about the horses and their horsey behavior may be, “just what the doctor ordered.”

Our Equine Specialists have decades of knowledge to share. Book an appointment with one of our equestrian professionals to spend an hour in an Equine Learning session. We look forward to being of service.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

When distress from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create feelings of overwhelm, of being back in that moment, or of being “frozen in time.” EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories, and allows normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.

EMDR can be beneficial for every age, gender, and orientation to help a wide range of challenges such as:

• Anxiety                      • Panic Attacks                      • Grief & Loss                          • Depression

• Addictions                • Anger                                     • Phobias                                  • Performance Anxiety

• Sleep Problems      • Traumatic Memories       • Low Self-Esteem                 • Trust Issues

EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.

Equine Assisted EMDR is effective in helping clients who suffer from complex and single incident trauma and PTSD. This modality incorporates the 8 phases of EMDR while interacting with the horses. The dual attention of the horses provides the opportunity for the client to start to feel safe and grounded.
