Welcome to Ignite Counseling

Ignite Counseling and Equine Psychotherapy™ was founded seven years ago. The intention was to fill a need for clinically focused therapy that included the equine component. Ignite focuses on empirically-based practices which incorporate horses in all aspects of mental health counseling and therapy. We succeed where other types of counseling in a typical office setting may have failed clients. Ignite programs have been started to, “think outside of the box.” Making a connection to nature adds an extra element that is so beneficial adding much success to our program.

Our Clientele

Our focus as mental health professionals is on treating people with mental health diagnoses including PTSD, complex trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, addictions, and personality disorders. We welcome children, teens, individuals, families, groups, and couples.

    Horses

How do we do what we do? Animal welfare is of the utmost importance and is always one of our top priorities. The support and care our horses receive go above and beyond just feeding and a clean stall. Horses that work in the Ignite program receive additional therapies and relaxation treatments to keep them comfortable and engaged with the clients during the tasks of the day. These treatments include massage therapy, PEMF treatments, acupuncture, trigger point, and physical therapy if needed. All this is in addition to excellent veterinary and dental care. Their diet is carefully constructed to support both the physical and mental demands of this type of work. We are very proud to say our horses are all still in working programs. This means they serve in the capacity of performance horses and therapy animals.

Oftentimes our clients cheer on the successes of the animals they have come to know during time spent at the barn.

"I came out to AZ for treatment at the Scottsdale Recovery Center, where they told me I would be attending Equine-Assisted Therapy. I tried everything I could to get out of it at first. But 5 minutes into my first session I fell in love, Alfie was the horse that helped me through rehab. After I was released I decided to stay in AZ for a year to help out at a ranch, that turned into a job, and I’ve never looked back."
